A proper market structure within EVE is something a lot of us have been looking forward to for a long time. I'm convinced we'll eventually get there.

Thanks for this great information. I've been in high sec only and at least I have an idea of what I should be thinking about before going into any PVP.

Star Date: 05052009
Log: So the evening started like the rest. I woke up to the humming of the engines. (Com: Beep-Beep) Dozer: “Jake we ready to set out?” Jake: “Yes, Sir” Dozer: “Very well, relay the orders to align to the nearest roid field, I’m on my way to the bridge.” Jake: “Yes Sir, right away.” Dozer: “What did I say about calling me Sir? You make me sound old, call me Dozer.” Jake: “I know. I just do it because it gets you worked up. *Grin*”,
--A few minutes later I arrived at the bridge, hit Jake up on the back of his head and jumped into the Captain’s Seat.—- Dozer: “Jake, give the go ahead to warp.” Jake: “Yes… ah forget it, Crystal gets to warp.”
Crystal: (Female Computer voice) “Warp engaged” –The 5 ships go to warp, one right after the other.--
(They call us The Cookie Monster Squad. We are a ragtag group of miners. Most of us are new to space. We each have our own background. We got into this profession to stay low key and under the radar. The rules are pretty simple for us, don’t ask questions and obey the fleet commander when given orders. Other than that we are a pretty laid back group of miners.
We recently joined up with Peticone. It’s a small corp, but they welcomed us in without any questions about our past. They are out there to make some isk. Just get them the rocks and we will all stay happy.
The Squad is made up of four Retrievers and a Mammoth, the Retrievers are low end mining ships while the Mammoth is a larger industrial ship. Our setup is pretty simple the miners mine and the indy hauls it back to the hangar.)
Moments Later
Crystal: “Warp Bubble collapses in 5... 4... 3... 2... 1..., we have arrived at our destination. No reds detected. Shall I scan the roids for you Dozer?” Dozer: “Na, surprise me, lock on to the closest rock and get those strip miners running. We’ll try and clear as much as we can before we have to head back for day.”
--A heavy buzz rings throughout the ship followed by loud blasts.—
Crystal: “The mining lasers have been set to a randomly target the next closest rock.” Dozer: “Thanks you know how we do it. Get me Honey on the link.” Crystal: “Shall I patch it into your headset.” Dozer: “As usual.”
(Com: Beep-Beep) Honey: “Hey Hon, we have a few system problems over here. We are working on them. We’re running at about 65 percent at the moment but we –Sparks- ...uh well make that 55, we should have things back up to at least 80 or 90 in a few hours.”
-Sirens sound-
(Com: Beep-Beep) Crystal: “Sorry to break in on you two but we have some reds that just warped in.” Dozer: “These guys start early don’t they? Launch the drones and get the fleet into defensive formation. Honey, try to keep close to us we will try and draw their fire and keep them on us.” Honey: “You’re so good to me, but don’t worry about us over here... –Conduit blows— ok well don’t worry too much, oh and I love you.” Dozer: “Love you to Hon.”
- Normally Retrievers have a crew of about hundred or so members, but do to our funding and well I just prefer to operate the way I do, we only have about five to each ship. I jumped into the drone interface and pulled the VR helm down over my head. The interface allows us to manual control the ships drones. While most pilots let the computer control their drones and they can make quick calculations and corrections there is nothing quite like having a human at the helm. —
Dozer: “Jake you in?” Jake: “Uh yup.” Dozer: “Crystal, switch systems over to manual, Jake and I will take care of these guys. Jake I will take drones 1 and 2 you have 3 and 4.” Jake: “Roger that. So what were we at?” Dozer: “If I remember correctly you had 15 and I had 17.” Jake: “Um… You sure, it wasn’t the other way around?’ Dozer: “Was it?” Jake: “Pff *Grin* no worries you need the handicap old man.” Dozer: “HA”
--With our eyes fixed on our targets the battle began. The drones guns lit up and streams of laser fire chased after the reds. The reds locked on to Honey’s weakened Retriever and began firing. Her shields shimmered but held.—
(Com: Beep-Beep) Dozer: “Hey Hon, you ladies ok in there?” Honey: “Yea, were fine, I think that last blast actually knocked something back into place. But if you could do me a favor, can you make a stop and pick up some chicken on the way home this evening, I want to make some curry for the crew.” (Com: Beep-Beep) Jake: “Hey you to love birds I’m up by two, Dozer you want to get into the game or can I have the rest.” Dozer: “I think that last one was mine, thank you very much. Hon I need to go, this guy wants to make me look bad in front of the crew.” Honey: “Yea you to get back to pew pew, the rest of us are going to get some rocks, some ones gotta pay the bills –Sparks— *sigh* and the repairs.
--The drones weave in and out of the ships, unleashing energy fury on the enemy. After a few more explosions... a few dents and scrapes, the four drones come out victorious. The rest of the mining op remains pretty quiet. We brought in a few mil that evening, keeping our employers happy and getting us the much needed isk for our repairs, supplies, and still have a little left over to make the monthly wages.--

@Erbo Evans

Sorry! I didn't actually get a chance to read all of the banters yet, didn't mean to take your topic :P

I don't think regulation would be a problem to be honest. Some restrictions would have to be hard coded into the game, of course, but politics should keep everything in check. It would be a big feature, and would probably take quite a long time to develop, but I think it would greatly expand the EVE universe. New careers and new play styles, never a bad thing!

That's an idea that's so good, we thought of it, too! :-) (Or, rather, Cain did, as we were discussing the Blog Banter on voice; I just took his idea and ran with it to produce the Blog Banter text.)

Some have suggested that, with no "government" to enforce "laws," a proper financial market couldn't exist. Well, there might be ways around that...

I really like this idea. I think that the ability to play the market would be a great addition. I would probably limit to player corporations. As far as pricing goes, it would have to work like the real market. When a corporation goes public, they give up some control of their corporation in exchange for money. After that, shareholders would have the ability to vote their shares on major changes in corporate structure, issuing more shares, joining/leaving alliances, and possibly even oust management.

Shares could pay dividends that would come from corporate coffers, and players could conceivably engineer a hostile takeover of a company by buying up a controlling portion of its shares.

I love this idea, and it would open up huge numbers of new play styles: robber baron, arbitrageur, etc.

Bring it on CCP!

By the way, please come see my somewhat less grand idea at http://journeytoneweden.blogspot.com.
